What do you like about working at LCN?
I joined LCN’s Board after having been a volunteer ESOL tutor at LCN for several years. Tutoring with LCN was a terrific experience, and over those years I saw what great work LCN was doing. Serving on the Board has been another way for me to support the organization and to give back to our community.
What is your favorite book?
Richard Feynman, the American physicist. Despite the difficulty of his subject matter, he inspired his students with a sense of wonder and delight, and left us with a legacy of some really good recorded lectures and books. In my experience, the most effective teachers have a passion for their subject, closely listen to and observe their students, and have a sense of humor.
Who inspired you to teach?
Lifelong learning is for people of all ages and from all walks of life. No matter how much education and experience you have, there’s always more to learn and there’s always room to grow!
In my free time I enjoy birding, which I do mostly here in Montgomery County. So far I’ve encountered 186 species in the County, which is only about 60% of all the species that have ever been seen here. Like I said, there’s always something new to learn!
