- What do you like about teaching/working at LCN?
The students are the best, and the staff are all really sweet!
- What is your favorite book?
I love Louisa May Alcott; she was an inspirational transcendentalist and activist of the Women’s Suffrage Movement. Therefore, at the risk of being perceived as a nerd, I’d have to say that my favorite book is Little Women, and it has been my favorite book since I was a child. I was an English Literature double-major in college, so I could go on and on (The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair and 1984, by George Orwell among many others).
- Who inspired you to be a teacher?
Actually, the first time I ever thought I’d like to be an ESL teacher specifically was in the first few grades of primary school. I had just moved back to Philly with my parents and siblings after having lived abroad for about three years, and my English wasn’t in the best shape anymore since I’d been living outside of the United States for several years. When we returned to the U.S., I was placed in ESL classes in school for more academic support. I found languages and the process of learning a language fascinating even at that young age. Throughout my childhood, I would read the encyclopedia (which, yes, we still used back then) and any entries about linguistics, languages, education, and psychology. Obviously, I’ve always loved languages!
- Fun fact about you:
I’m multilingual and have lived in Germany and Greece (and love traveling in general).
