The Literacy Council of Norristown provides instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE), English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and GED (high school equivalency) to adult learners in our community via classes and volunteer tutors.
Our vision is to help create a community with an increased level of English literacy, and an organization enthusiastically called upon to provide English literacy improvement services without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
Our mission is to empower those adults who seek to improve their reading, writing, and math skills, or who are learning English as a foreign language. Through a network of local volunteers, we provide one-on-one tutoring or small group classes at little or no cost to students in need.
LCN mourns the loss of two Champions of Literacy
LCN has lost two of its greatest champions in 2018. LCN co-founder Katharine Dosch died in May at the age of 98, and Reverend Walter Dosch passed away on November 29, also age 98. Both of them were champions of literacy and will be sorely missed. The staff of LCN would like to extend their deepest condolences to the family of these two wonderful and generous people.
